EV is better than Gas!!!

Key Points Discussed:
  • Technology Degradation vs. Over-the-Air Upgrades
  • Capitalizing on EV Depreciation
  • Long-Term Battery Health and Reliability

Dave, if someone’s looking at buying a used car and they’re going back and forth between a used EV and a used gasoline vehicle, what would you advise? >> Like say like a three-year-old, >> don’t choose the gas car, bro. >> You know better, right? >> You’re a smart guy. >> I would buy the gasoline. Reason is the rate of change in technology on EVs versus ICE cars is exponentially more on EVs. Okay. So, for example, you go buy a 3-year-old 3 series, a 3-year-old 3 series and today’s a 21 3 series and, you know, a 24 3 series, right? Is the it the delta, the difference in the technology, in the efficiency and how the car, you know, is so minute. It’s hardly any difference. You’re not going to get one car going giving you 30 m a gallon 3 years ago and a new car giving you 50 m a gallon today. But an EV’s rate of technology change on the range, battery performance, everything, it changes every year. >> He’s exactly right. But my question would be this. So let’s take that 2023 BMW that is always going to stay a 2023 BMW with the same technology. But with Tesla, that exact same car, you still owning that, the technology can upgrade and even the battery can upgrade. For example, we had two customers last week upgrade from a 75 kWh battery all the way to 100 while keeping the same car. Also, with gas prices being as high as they are right now, buying a used EV right now is one of the best decisions because if you own one for 3 to 4 years, the depreciation goes down 60%. So, the first person who bought the car is going to take that big hit. You’re able to buy used DV for way less. And before you say, well, what about the battery? A new study just came out that shared 8 years after owning an electric vehicle, and the study was done with 22,000 electric cars, 81% of the battery is still perfectly fine. So, if it was me, I’d choose the EV. Let me know what you think.
